The 2016 Edition of CQDIFF standards and guidelines was updated to incorporate important changes to the original data specification for the Personal Health Information Exchange (PHIE) (also known as the HIPAA Marketing Module (HIMM)). This specification was designed to meet the requirements of the 2014 Edition of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The updated data spec will be available as a HONcode approved standard and will provide the explicit rules for how PHIE presents and transfers information.

The OMOP-3 was designed to provide a common framework that would allow for the interoperability of health-related research data for precision medicine. To this end, the 2016 Edition brought significant updates to existing OMOP terminologies. This work was designed to enable the retrieval of patient-level longitudinal clinical data and biomarker data for use in a precision medicine context.
